Why does everyone say that sand can't cause a pearl to form in an mollusk? I know that that is the common idea, but just because it's so common doesn't make it untrue. Sand, parasites, food, or anything that makes it's way inside the shell that can irritate a mollusk can become a pearl.

So if i take care of an oyster and then put a little grain of sand when it opens the mouth and I wait years until im old will I get a pearl?

I am probably the only one to think that the process of making a pearly is like getting a corn on your foot. Something foreign gets inside you, andso your body puts hard layers on that substance, execpt no one wants to buy corns because they are disgusting.
