I watched about 10 of your vids and they are all very well made. But this is the pinnacle of what I would say is the problem of this channel. Is all that skill of Lockpicking Lawyer really about advising what NOT to use? I personally would rather like to see more often what lock is great and not the other way round. I didn't stumble across one vid about a lock worth buying here. What a pity. Are all the locks out there garbage? It seems like.

Nope. Got one lock worse. A lot of kids when I was in middle school bought locks for their lockers with a beer can aluminum body and recycled milk jug plastic dial. Ultra cheap. What was fun about them? You could just slap them with your hand and they would open. Not even hard. Just swat the dial and it would open right up.

Actually, I think LPL just convinced me that this lock is a great deal. It's only $3. For $3 you get a bike lock that will make it LOOK like your bike is secured which will deter most people from bothering. Only a thief with enough knowledge/determination to pick it, bring bolt cutters or know enough to shim it would bother. So if you're cheap and reluctant to buy a serious lock, why not get this? It's a visual deterrent. It's kind of like the Coral Snake approach. The Coral Snake is venomous but several snakes have evolved similar colors and looks and benefit from potential predators mistaking them for Coral snakes. This bike lock is not venemous, but it looks like it to those who don't know better.

you paid a cheap price for a lock for your cheap bike
first thing in place is that rarely those bike is the target for thieves, the lock is just stop people taking the bike
in fact, it doesnt make sense for bike using expensive locks
expensive bike means expensive in all parts, in which wheels are expensive, frame is expensive, neck, saddle, handle, even those electronic pieces. If i am a thief i will take everything I can, that make you need to "lock" everything
and this conclusion is contradict to the purpose of a bike for being light........the simple way to solve this is to keep it indoor......

@Bonio22 what I mean is all you need is a lock for "coffee time" if you put your bike outside, regardless of what lock you have , it's gonna be stolen
for sure not a heavy(which probably heavier than your bike) ,expensive one
and for cheap bike, no one gonna to steal your if you put a "lock looking" thing on it(it just waste of time to transport it)

    • Bonio22
      Bonio22 6 days ago

Tbh, a lock like this is just a psychological deterent: thief sees bike has a lock, (hopefully) decides it isn't worth the hassle. If I've learned anything from binging on these videos, even the "good" locks are pretty easily picked if someone knows what they're doing and has the tools/ time necessary. If you don't have the money for some crazy hi-tech lock, might as well just get something cheap like this and hope the appearance of a lock is enough of a deterent.

Ha - I had this lock - only ever used it with a 'proper' u lock through the front wheel and frame, and used this lock to put through the rear wheel. I already had security skewers so this was more to show casual thieves that the bike was locked. Left it locked to a lamp post when not in use to save carrying the locks back and forth each day.
