Is Tom Brady the greatest team athlete of all-time?

    • Martin S.
      Martin S. 3 days ago

Yes and no; it's not 'accurate' to say TB12 is the best SPORTS ATHLETE of all-time. First of all, it's not fair to TB12, but it's also not fair to say... hockey players, or soccer players. Keep in mind, if you take a sports athlete like Christiano Ronaldo (CR7) how many times has he won Champions League? He has at least 28 trophies!
Don't get me wrong, I love Patriots and TB12, but to say he's the greatest ATHLETE of all-time, that is stretching it way out.

TB12 is without any doubt the most accomplished NFL player/QB of all-time. Will he ever be surpassed? Maybe. When Michael Shumacher, former Formula 1 driver, won his 7th championship title, there were those who said it would never be surpassed. Well, Lewis Hamilton sure is in with a good chance of doing it.

Brady has done more in his sport than anyone else has in the NFL. Jordan has not! The 3/3 is amazing but there is still a Russell, Jabbar and Magic that is in the debate. Jordan hasn’t made the separation in his sport that Brady has made in his and he’s still playing! Ridiculous! Oh and Belichick had something to do with it as well!

I actually never thought of that
Cut Brady career in half and it can still be argued he is the Greatest QB ever, or atleast in top 3
    That's 1 for the haters
They will have nightmares over that one😂😂😂

Everyone craps on ELI... everyone.. and at the end he is 2-0 against Tom in the super bowl... done enough said... joe actually sat out in the 4th quarter with plenty of time left and he still threw for 5 TDS... give me a break joe beat Marino and elway... come on... both at their best... get out of here... joe is the best Brady ... not there...

Just think about what Montana would have done with the rules today and QBs not even being able to be touched. Good Lord. Brady is the greatest of this generation, not all time. He would get absolutely destroyed in the 70’s and 80’s. He couldn’t even play. But those QBs would have begged to play in these rules. That’s a huge difference that Herd always conveniently ignores.

I really like and respect Brady and agree on much of what Colin says except Belichick is as much or more responsible for those rings than Brady. The offense only had 13 points in the last super bowl but the end up winning because of Belichick and his assistants. It's a marriage made in heaven though. Brady has greatly aided Belichick to be the coach he is. Even with his accomplishments he remains coachable and a great teammate. He's taken less money to help the team with other contracts. He lets Belichick criticize him in front of the team and takes it constructively. He sets the tone for the team. His love for the game, attitude and work ethic let him overcome being a below average athlete. His arm is definitely way above average though.

Its time like this when you question how these so called analysts get paid to speak on sports. You're wrong Cowherd and this is why...Basketball players play Offense and Defense, which puts them in a totally different level of comparison. You can make that argument for football only. As for Basketball and Hockey, no he's not. It's ludicrous to have to point this out to an analyst.

@Regular Dad Here That's true and we can't forget there's one more sport, RUGBY, it doesn't get enough credit for the physicality required. Practically football with no pads. That's a mans game...

Regular Dad Here 5 days ago

Rick James yeah don’t forget soccer. I think they may be best athletes in the world arguably. Basketball and hockey definitely physical demanding sports having to play both offense and defense.

This is the dumbest thing ever. No one ever said “X player is better than Jordan” during his career. Media and fans and said Peyton, Rodgers, Brees are possibly better. Brady as an athlete isn’t doing anything we haven’t seen before. Jordan revolutionized basketball as we know it. Shut the F up clown

  • Xander Sanders

The most PPG Tom Brady's defense has ever allowed in a season is 21.6
Marino's defenses allowed more than that 5 times
Rodgers' defenses allowed more than that 6 times
Peyton's defense allowed more than that 7 times
Brees' defenses allowed more than that 9 times
Quit trying to craft a “Brady didn’t have much help” argument. Not to mention arguably the most talented WR and TE of all time

    • Pedro Martinez
      Pedro Martinez 7 days ago

@Michael Robert Update: The difference between #10 and #17 is now less than 3 ppg.

    • Pedro Martinez
      Pedro Martinez 17 days ago

@Michael Robert Four games is hardly an adequate sample size. Show me a 16 game season and the numbers are usually quite close. Plus you need to examine quality of opponents, offenses played, turnovers created, the timing of scores, and whether a defense improves during the season and how it plays in the postseason.
e.g. the 2011 Packers defense was ranked 19th in points allowed. You might assume that was a bad defense. However, they led the NFL in turnovers created as well as leading the NFC in field position given to their offense. They also gave up 41 points in the last game of the season when they rested many of their starters; which skewed their ppg allowed.
So if you omit the final game / outlier, the 2011 Packers D gave up 20.26 points per game. The two teams in the Super Bowl that year gave up 21.4 (New England) and 25.0 (New York Giants) points per game.
The defense excuse is a red herring in my opinion; especially when phrased in terms of "Top 10." It is misleading and deceptive.

    • Michael Robert
      Michael Robert 17 days ago

@Pedro Martinez this season the #10 defense (Houston) has allowed 19.5 PPG while the number 17 defense (Denver) is averaging 23.4 PPG. That's an entire nother possession that the qb needs to take the lead

    • Pedro Martinez
      Pedro Martinez 17 days ago

@Michael Robert Top 10 doesn't mean anything without context.
Is the #10 defense in points scored that much better than the #17 defense?
It is less than a point per game in many seasons. If that is your excuse why your QB isn't winning then that is just sour grapes.

  • tony sobon

I do forget about Pippen in that he has a strong case for top 50 players of all-time and maybe at like 30 not 49-50 again maybe. The Jazz in the 90's are the only other team that maybe has 2 players over the top 50 of All-Time. There were duos like Payton and Kemp that are HoF players but both in top 50 no way. then you look at the duo of Pippen and Jordan and they were both elite if not top 10 defenders during there era and worked off each other prefect where there small weak spot in there game the other was able to cover the slight weakness in each others games. I mean take just those 2 and build a team around them and they could plays and win any era and i don't want hear about the 3 ball. Saying MJ wouldn't be at least a +30% 3 shooter and take 5-6 a game and i think Pippen would have been able to about the same.

@Pedro Martinez half of Brady's playoff stats would be similar to Mannings.. Actually less playoff wins just 1 more SB win.. Then Manning would have 5MVP, way more allpro, yards, wins, comebacks, tds, division titles, etc.. Half of Brady is not close to Peyton's career.. I will admit he is the greatest of all time but he has not had double the career of Manning, Elway, or Montana

A great analysis backed by FACTS! Agree that Kitchens is trying to everything to everybody. He is going to kearn real fast: NFL: Not For Long. He will be fired by Haslam and won't know what hit him...The Brady analysis: I have said this for as long as I can remember: you will NEVER ever ever ever get a number 199 sixth round STEAL like Belichick did with Tom Brady. Watch that video of that draft day. Belichick kept asking the GM and scouts/assistants, "No one's picked up that skinny kid from Michigan? He's still on the Boards?". Belichick had to justify carrying A FOURTH QB and put Brady on the Taxi squad. But look at that stretch decision now. He who laughs last laughs best, and Belichick already got his last laugh. Belichick is now torturing the NFL.

Basketball is also set up way more favorably for dynasties and long periods of dominance. There's always 1-2 dominant teams that define an era and a lot of the teams are just extras with no real shot. In football everything is set up to benefit the weaker teams and very few teams can even win 2 superbowls in ten years. So what the patriots have been doing always impressed me way more than any basketball team.
