How the Nets wasted a prime championship opportunity, then fell apart and left the state | Collapse

  • Published on Mar 13, 2019
  • In the mid-2000s, the NBA's Western Conference faltered a bit, allowing for the Eastern Conference to swoop in and win a couple championships. Heading into that mini era, anyone would have picked the New Jersey Nets to snatch at least one of those trophies. But instead of seizing the throne, the Nets followed back-to-back Finals visits with disaster: heartbreaking playoff defeats, payroll cuts, injuries, bad luck, and an eventual departure for Brooklyn.
This is how the New Jersey Nets collapsed.

its okay kyrie and KD are the guys we need to win that championship. the nets have one of the best benches in the league and they always play their hearts out no matter the score. this might be the year tbh and if we dont win it this year KD will make sure we get it next yese when he comes back

The Nets got robbed. Shaq had 4 fouls in the entire series. Van Horn had 4 fouls in the first quarter of game 3, and Aaron Williams fouled out in 2 minutes. NBA is trash.

      JBSptfn 5 days ago

@James Buccola I know (although, I am not sure if Iverson was deprived. That 01 Sixer team only made the Finals because of the officials. They screwed the Bucks in the ECF that year).

@JBSptfn and look at who the refs deprived of titles... Iverson, Miller, Webber, Kidd... and for what?

The 2000-02 Lakers were BS champions. They were aided big-time by the refs.

NJ was too obscure to have had a team. NJ can have one but CT could not? The excuse often being that CT is too close to NYC! Well, what is NJ?

    • ReturnoftheBrotha
      ReturnoftheBrotha Month ago

@James Buccola lol. Now I know that I'm dealing with a nut! Your people are not even from this country so dont worry about any state.

    • ReturnoftheBrotha
      ReturnoftheBrotha Month ago

Yes it is because you are claming that NJ is on par with NYC< Philly, Boston or a DC and is superior to CT, but CT founded NJ! Fairfield, Bridgeport, Milford, New Milford, Woodbridge, Orange, Byram, Bloomfield, etc. - do these places sound familiar? Case closed.

    • ReturnoftheBrotha
      ReturnoftheBrotha Month ago

@James Buccola oh yeah I forgot! CT founded NJ! That is why so many NJ towns are named after CT towns! Case closed.

    • ReturnoftheBrotha
      ReturnoftheBrotha Month ago

Come on, if you don't think that NJ, CT, VT, RI, NH, ME and DE are obscure states - then I don't know what to say. In the northeast, the prime states are those with major cities with pro sports teams: NY, PA, MA, MD and DC. Their neighbors are obscure states in their metro areas. NJ had the Nets and Devil, but hosts the Jets/Giants. Long ago, CT hosted the Giants as well.
My original point was since NJ is an obscure state with no major cities (from a national perspective) and in the metro areas of TWO major cities, so under normal circumstances, NJ should never have had any pro sports teams. By same point, CT should have had one too. I cannot think of any other obscure state (outside of the NHL) that has pro sports teams - especially being in a metro area of a major city.
Like I wrote before, NJ, CT and MD are the 3 richest states (in the metro areas of the two most important cities in the nation), with CT taking the top spot almost all of the time. Sometimes, MD would take the top spot but NJ would be #2 or #3. I know that NJ has money - so that is no debate. All I am saying is that CT's money is at the highest level. No need to argue that, but to say that Bergen County alone outdoes all of CT? You must be getting high!

    • ReturnoftheBrotha
      ReturnoftheBrotha Month ago

I have no hate for NJ as I know the place from top to bottom and I even lived there once. Bergen County was a place I visited often, as I knew someone in Rockland County. NY as well. Maybe you don't know about CT, but CT has the wealth that will boggle the mind! No matter what you have, you will always feel poor to this wealth. I can't say that Bergen had Bugatti's, Bentley's and other custom, ultra high-end vehicles as normal! NJ is rich, which people don't realize, but CT's wealth goes above and beyond. Being rich is the main thing that CT is known for.

This video is kind of bullshit because it ignores the fact that the eastern conference was TERRIBLE when they went to the finals in consecutive years. In 2004 teams like the Pistons and Pacers were clearly surging while the Nets got left behind. The Nets honestly never stood a chance. They were the least worst of the bunch in the east and were ultimately fodder for whoever came out of the west.
