I go to the same 2 grocery stores, depending on what's on sale and their relative prices. I make note of where the Items I want are kept (I use a spreadsheet). I then organize my shopping list by aisle. This way, I minimize my time in the store and skip aisles that don't have what I want.

Here's a food hack: when you buy things like cheese and meat, buy the option that went through less processing e.g least cutting/ prepping. Buy a whole block of cheese and not pre-sliced cheese as pre-sliced and pre-grated cheese is more expensive at it has ALREADY been done.

Life hack that's an actual life hack:
Take a straw and place it in the top of a ziplock bag. Seal the bag around the straw and then use the straw to suck all the air out of the bag yourself. Then remove the straw and quickly seal the bag back up. It's not as fancy as getting a professional vacuum sealer, and it may not last _as long,_ but it still does make everything seal up pretty tightly and does work very nicely.

it's videos like this that show what an unhealthy fear of food poisoning America has. But anyway, that wasn't chicken tenders he made. I butcher chickens quite regularly, when you remove the breasts beneath each is a smaller replica of it. THOSE are chicken tenderloin aka tenders. they cook differently than sliced chicken breast.

  • cookobunny 1

HouseholdHacker you do not cook with olive oil as it has a lower steam rate than rapeseed oil or cooking oil any nutritional benefits in olive oil are then lost and become bad and you can a lot of money on buying other oils that can withstand the heat of your hot pan(P.S A steam rate is when an oil starts to smoke)

Another 'hack' to elaborate on - buying meat in bulk, then freezing - ADD a bit of oil, salt pepper, spices or sauce before freezing. The oil helps it from becoming freezer burnt and pulling out meat that just has to be cooked without seasoning is a real time saver (so you don't have to think what to do with it.) This is especially great tip for CAMPERS! no seasoning to bring! It marinates while it thaws. Busy moms and busy ppl in general will find this helpful :)

+HouseholdHacker and everyone.I have a hack I've used for many years. Dairy items like sour cream, yogurt, cottage cheese - that come in a plastic container and lid: store UPSIDE DOWN. (I also keep the plastic film that's in the container as well) It prolongs the life waay past the expiry since it keeps the air out. It really works fab!

for the thing with the milk, as someone who works in that department please don't do that. in reality your making a mess and are just reaching for milk with the same date as the stuff in the front. all of that milk comes off of the same pallet so all of it has the same date. and if there is any difference then its only because its from a newer shipment but if anything the difference is a day.
so please don't try to grab the milk from the back.
