  • Half Life Alyx Trailer (2020)
    About Half Life Alyx:
Set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, Alyx Vance and her father Eli mount an early resistance to the Combine's brutal occupation of Earth.
The loss of the Seven-Hour War is still fresh. In the shadow of a rising Combine fortress known as the Citadel, residents of City 17 learn to live under the rule of their invaders. But among this scattered population are two of Earth's most resourceful scientists: Dr. Eli Vance and his daughter Alyx, the founders of a fledgling resistance.
You and your father were relocated to City 17. In the years since, you've continued your clandestine scientific activity-performing critical research, and building invaluable tools for the few humans brave enough to defy the Combine.
Every day you learn more about your enemy, and every day you work toward finding a weakness.
Lean around a broken wall and under a barnacle to make an impossible shot. Rummage through shelves to find a healing syringe and some shotgun shells. Manipulate tools to hack alien interfaces. Tear a headcrab off your face and throw it out the window. VR was built for the kind of gameplay that sits at the heart of Half-Life.

2019. Still no new Half Life for my mouse. Will my mouse die without playing new Half life? F* you Valve. I'm sick of your heartless actions.

I mean it's great to see familiar faces and locations with better graphics, but i just want a new normal Half Life game, no vr gimmick. I hope there's a mode for m+k somehow, gor those that have been waiting years for a new half life game.

@Dan OST Allright... lets just put something straight, 3D gaming was never a gimmick. Blueray was never a gimmick, these were technologies that set milestones the moment they hit the shelves.
VR on the other hand is currently overhyped and has failed to meet market expectation year after year because guess what, VR is just as limiting as it is enriching. VR and motion controls will often limit what you can do just as much as a gamepad or keyboard and mouse will.
Why would I use less accurate controls for high action games just because VR is a thing?
Why would I ever use VR controls for my strategy games when a keyboard allows me to have all my shortcuts and quick commands close to hand.
How about hack and slash RPGs
      How about platformers
What about MMO's where you usually have a massive amount of abilities.
VR is a gimmick. By definition it is a gimmick. It doesn't work with the vast majority of game genres and even when it does you are sacrificing something for it
It is an ingenious yet novel concept designed to appeal to a certain audience. How is that not a gimmick?

      "VR Gimmick"
Just how 3D games were a gimmick back in the isometric games era.
Or how BlueRay was a "gimmick" in the DVD era.. And anything else that moves things forward is called a "gimmick".
As far as I see it, 99% of people that call VR a gimmick have not tried VR, and they are just salty that they don't have or cannot have it. "Oh, I can't afford VR, thus it's a gimmick".
Gaming has gotten increasingly stale. VR is the future of gaming. A few years from now the same people that call VR a gimmick will be playing VR almost exclusively. It's hard to go back to a 2D screen once you immerse yourself in a VR game, heh.
And no, phone VR is not real VR. Now THAT is a gimmick.
Valve stated that the reason this game is VR only is because the level of interaction and gameplay elements cannot be replicated with mouse and keyboard.
And they also mentioned that Half Life gas always been an innovator in gaming. They redefined PC gaming as we know it with Half Life
They plan to do the same to VR with Half Life Alyx

    • NorrKnekten
      NorrKnekten 19 days ago

Developers mentioned in an interview that M+k was not going to be an option nor would it be likely to ever be implemented. VR is a neccesity in how levels and puzzles has been design... its basically a physics demo which Half life always seems to turn into.

    What valve doesn't tell you.....
This trailer is running on $4,000 worth of hardware. People will tell you that you can get a cheap headset for $200, they will fail to mention that doesn't include the computer, that it will run like trash, and this is mostly designed to sell vr, again, and also force everyone onto steam. Forcing you with half life again, just like half life 2, and the episodes that you couldn't play without steam. Pc babies complain about epic, but seriously look at this shit. Wow. And they couldn't even finish the story or use Gordon, y'know, for my diversity

    • Max Sköldelid
      Max Sköldelid Day ago

Yeah and by doing so they push the development of VR, effectively making it much more advanced and also much cheaper, which is how it has worked with every new technology since the beginning of mankind. Someone needs to invest in it. What better way to do so than to release a real game (not a physics experiment like literally every other VR game), With a real story, creating an interest in VR and making it more accessible for people who can't afford it right now?
And using ("Abusing", to people like you) the longing for a new half life game, isn't dumb either, cause they don't owe us another one. It's like saying I owe you money for giving you money. See what I mean? They don't owe you something because you liked their game. It doesn't work like that. If I give you something and you appreciate it, I don't owe you more. You paid for the games, so you don't owe them either.
For real though. They are doing a good thing here. Sure I won't be able to play this game in some years (at which time better ones will be available for me) as I am a student and definitely can't afford it all. But BECAUSE they are doing this, VR will get cheaper each year and so I too can afford it. You should appreciate companies pushing VR. You think it's greed for money? Financially they are literally LOSING money on this. Cause of how few people will be able to buy it. It's not like the revenue for the expensive hardware goes to them....

    • Max Sköldelid
      Max Sköldelid Day ago

Cause it isn't half life 3 and they don't owe you one. :)

So your using the DiVeRsItY argument now? Ffs. Jesus Christ. You play as a female character. Who was a badass in HL2 and it’s episodes. Big fucking deal.

    • Gomenred
      Gomenred 20 days ago +2

Besides the computer stuff steam can do what it wants with half life, Epic is a problem because it's stealing games it had no hand in developing and forcing players to choose. Half life however is owned developed and produced by Valve. So besides yes needing about $2000 worth of hard ware is an issue but it's not forcing anything when the game isn't even a sequel it's another .5 it takes place between the first and second games so if they do make a 3rd this isn't required playing.

@Christopher Simon So..You're saying valve OWES you a half life 3 because they made you half life 1 and 2? That's kind of like saying I oew you money because I gave you money and raised your expectations for more, and then getting mad cause I had a giveaway at an event you couldn't make it to.

RedTail5 I guess what I’m trying to say is that now Valve is finally acknowledging the games again, where as before they discarded it from their minds since they thought they weren’t gonna add to the property anymore. They’d have to be complete ass hats to not follow this up with HL3 but then again... it is Valve.. so I guess we’ll just see
