What about Time Machine backing up to the Apple Cloud. You can back up the iPhone and iPad to the Apple cloud, but you can’t back up the MacBook to the Apple Cloud.

Now you can edit videos on FCPX on your iPad with sidecar feature. Provided you have a Mac.

  • V. Sriram Sundar
    V. Sriram Sundar 8 days ago

Now with iPadOS you have sidecar feature there's no need for a touchbar on the MacBooks. Apple can just implement touchbar on the iPad while sidecaring so that using macOS on iPad will be intuitive af. I don't see the point of touchbar on MacBooks but makes sense to have touchbar on iPad while using Sidecar feature.

i'm amazed at the low latency .... is this because of the apple chips they use ? cos on my apple TV 4K there is a bit of latency..
btw , i'm just curious, does in the USA in 2019 you still have Data plans for home network ? ( cos from were i came from internet since the first DSL provider came around has always been unlimited ) and nowadays it's similar for 4G , or 3G back in the day , for like 15,99€ you can have unlimited data , i used more than 1,80 Tb of shared 4G date with my imac for my iphone in january cos i was moving ^^ so is data plan still a thing in the USA nowadays ??

This is what bothers me. Find my uses Bluetooth and WiFi. Thieves aren’t dumb. They might bring down control center from lock screen on the iPhone and disable Bluetooth. A lot of people, including me, will allow control center on lock screen for convenience. Might need to rethink it. Or they might just shut it down right away. To use it again though, they will have to turn it back on sometime so guess that works.

Snazzy Labs low power mode would be nice. Turn the screen off and everything, just keep very low powered necessary services running to still find the phone. Like the idea.

    • Snazzy Labs
Snazzy Labs  25 days ago +1

Thieves actually are generally pretty dumb. Also, Control Center doesn’t actually turn the radios off as of iOS 10. It just disconnects from the current device. So you’d need to power the phone off to prevent the radios from pinging home. And I wouldn’t be surprised if a low-power mode was instituted in future devices when they’re “off.”

I’m sure most of you know that Duet has been doing this for years. Since 2015 when I bought the first gen 12.9” iPad Pro, I’ve used the Apple Pencil and the iPad Pro as a writing tablet to write music notation in Notion 6 for macOS. It’s always worked fine. I’m sure Apple has improved some of the details, but Duet has always been very useful. I’m glad Apple added it to macOS though. The iOS and macOS integration is coming along. And they’ve been able to bring the iPad OS closer to macOS instead of dumbing down macOS. This will end up being much more useful than having an unwieldy Windows eco system across desktops and tablets.

What are the specs on the MacBook and IPad shown in the video? I’m guessing that while “backward compatible to 2015” is correct, performance will be another issue entirely. The featured setup seemed to run legit.

But does it have opengl 4.5, vulkan? What macos needs is to be able to bring computer apps, not mobile apps. I know that I'll will be hated for this comment. But I have an old mac with macos 10.5. And I find that they are makeing many hardware and software bad decisions. This additions are fine, but many things that are important for me, they droped it out. Now I'm a full time Linux user.

You’re really overselling the side-car feature. No latency issue? I can see the latency issue in your video alone and, having it just tried on my MBP/iPad Pro, I can assure you that there is very noticeable latency. It’s usable but claiming it to be a ‘Wacom killer’ is just insane - for now.

    • Ryan Clouse
      Ryan Clouse 28 days ago

I dunno. This is beta and not a commercial release. I still expect latency, but I am pretty sure it'll get better before it's comercial release. Also if you have a mac I think I would prefer spending money on an iPad or an off-brand "Cintiq" vs and actual Cintiq. With an iPad you get all the extra functionality including using Procreate by itself on the go (although sidecar may not be as optimal), and with an off brand I think the missing features aren't worth the price premium. I agree It certainly isn't a "killer" per say as you said with stated latency, but I do think it is lessening the need to own a Cintiq by Wacom (or other tablets if you already have a supported iPad for that matter). That said this is under the assumption it works. So I guess we'll see when it releases. xP

I'm considered with device management with the disappearance of iTunes. How will I back up my iPhone (without uploading my data to icloud), or sync legacy devices or recover a device from recovery mode. I've read it will be integrated into Mac OS, what if I'm part of the 80% of Windows users? Would I be forced to keep dead software on my computer?

the more "user friendly" a system becomes the most bloat becomes, the reason is we all have different needs, at best you could classify users but even then they could find usefulness in different features for the same use case.

case in point, 9:10 you are not a Reminders user, that is bloat for you.

    • Luis Pulido
      Luis Pulido 27 days ago

@Ryan Clouse yet, it should be native. I'm not spending a dime on something that's free on all other OS. Heck, even Android for Desktop has it.

    • Ryan Clouse
      Ryan Clouse 28 days ago

There's apps for that (Yeah, I know it's not native but it works.)! I believe there are free ones but I use Magnet. If you don't mind spending a dollar it's on the Mac app store. You can drag to snap like in windows or use shortcuts. The shortcuts are nice if you want to do an easy quick 1/3 - 2/3 set up. ^^
