They aren't getting rid of the PG rating. IF you watch Raw, you will still see it is rated PG. What they are doing differently is leaning towards the adult end of the PG rating than the child one. PG covers a braod spectrum of what you can do. These clowns have no clue what they are talking about,

That average age for wwe fans makes no sense. Who’s buying all the toys they sell? And every time you see the fans in the audience, it’s usually kids or guys in their 30s.

Denzel Pinkerton WWE was TV-14 in the past. It’s been PG since July 22, 2008 which is a fact. Did you somehow miss John Cena spray painting “JBL is poopy” 15 days before it was official or did you just stop watching before 2008?

  • Michael Anderson
    Michael Anderson 5 months ago

John says the average age of the fan base is 54 years old? I'm not buying it, The problem is adults don't care for the most part unless they've young kids. The attitude era had kids, teens and adults up to about 50 with or without kids that followed the product. Adult fans really started checking out in the 2000's and John Cena became the face of PG wrestling because of mostly young boys.

    • DanV900
      DanV900 5 months ago

Michael Anderson The study was done easily by checking the ratings with the demographic break downs every week and comparing the different years. It’s available from Nielsen and still used as it has been used for decades. Wrestling podcasts bring up the horrible Raw and Smackdown ratings with bleeding the fan base all the time.

    • Michael Anderson
      Michael Anderson 5 months ago

@DanV900 How is the study done? Adults were into wrestling much more 20 years ago.

    • DanV900
      DanV900 5 months ago

Michael Anderson It’s a fact and from a study done by the Magna Global Sports Business Journal. Rocha didn’t make it up where the older fans are the demographic that watches the most while younger fans have moved on. WWE wants the 18-39 demographic to watch and has failed. It’s how you get the worst ratings ever and 30% of the audience to stop watching from last year.

    • DanV900
      DanV900 5 months ago

Michael Anderson The Attitude Era had a lot of garbage that doesn’t hold up and wasn’t good then. It’s just that people ignored the awful stuff since there was the Rock and Stone Cold on the screen. The best part of the Attitude Era was the first 6 months of 2000 which was WWE at its best with the way everyone was booked. The wrestling for NXT blows the Attitude Era out of the water and that’s not really an argument at this point. There are exceptions with certain matches, but people who have been watching know that as far as the quality of the wrestling top to bottom for shows.

    • Michael Anderson
      Michael Anderson 5 months ago

@DanV900 It's time to move on from the PG era. Of course the writing is the key but NXT can't compare to the attitude era.

The WWE being PG was never the issue. It was Vince's crappy writing. All that CM Punk stuff, was PG and it was amazing. The Daniel Bryan stuff was great when he was champion and that was PG. Kevin Owens when he was first called up to WWE from NXT was great and that was PG. If the writing stays crappy, it wont matter if its not PG anymore. It will still be awful

Good, give it some edge. The WWE is so boring, the pacing sucks and wrestlers gimmicks could be on sesame street, no one wants to be talked down too like babies. It's no wonder younger demo's don't watch or care about wrestling. The WWE can only rely on nostalgia for so long.

Story telling is not limited due to A lack of rating. Look at NXT, it does just fine, so now what’s the excuse? A Tv-14 rating isn’t gonna fix the bad dialogue and lack of storyline continuity? Is it gonna fix 50/50 booking? Is it gonna fix the lack of rising stars because they decide to put all their fruit into one basket? To be clear, I’m all for A edgier show and to bring back the tv-14 rating but it isn’t the reason the show sucks. It’s not gonna be the ultimate fix. They can run A pg show just fine it’s been done for years before the attitude era and even after. The fact that wwe treats it’s fans like idiots is what got them to where they’re at. A change in rating doesn’t change that either.

    • themadrapper101
      themadrapper101 4 months ago

WWE is still nowhere close to being as vulgar and for adults like the Attitude era at all. Even if they do say shit and ass once or twice a show it's still PG as can be right now.

@Denzel Pinkerton Have you enjoyed any wwe wrestling since 2008? Y2J heel run, Summer of Punk, Daniel Bryan main event push, The Shield first run, Undertaker vs HBK/HHH Mania series, etc. All PG. How about NXT which is constantly praised for being new and fresh having well defined characters, smart booking and great wrestling. All PG. When SD Live was really great from 2016 to early 2017. All PG.
By comparison, 2002 to 2005 Raw which saw endless boring Triple H title runs, some of the dumbest angles in wrestling history and embrassing use of women across the show all TV 14.
Sure there maybe more freedom with TV 14 but if you think that's the deciding factor that's going to change the product your gravely mistaken and trust me it will show when they do change the rating if the product still fucking sucks. I'll take a well thought out product over blood, nudity and cussing any day.

    • Anoop Singh
      Anoop Singh 5 months ago

@Michael Drew Sure I agree with all of what your saying but my point is the rating has nothing to do with it. You mention Eddie's title win one of the best moments ever I agree. However what about it couldn't have happened in the PG Era as well. RE era had tons of grap like Katie Vick, Eugene, Lita's pregnancy, middle aged DX, Vince's feud with God and general use of women that all can't happen today and probably wouldn't have happened if the product was PG. You mention the terrible 13 year old level promos and your right but again PG has nothing to do with its terrible scripts. Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe, Paul Heyman and Bray Wyatt are all great promos who don't sound like the are 13 even though they are in a PG product cause from what I understand all those talents are given a pretty good amount of freedom with their promos.

    • Michael Drew
Michael Drew 5 months ago +1

@Anoop Singh yes they are doing well in a product which isn't doing well facts are facts and they are losing audiences live and on TV 600,000 k a year. Good writing and booking is key but for me the creative team are handcuffed and play it safe and most the talent talks like 13 year old and saying the ruthless aggression era was terrible is ridiculous for it had bad moments but the moments we got were epic Eddie's title win for was one of many the decline of the quality of the writing and booking coincides with the pg era and the best talent of the pg era retiring coming part time or leaving what's furstrating is the in ring quality is way higher than its ever been but the writing and booking is laughable and I really believe going for a more mature tone would help everyone involved

    • Anoop Singh
      Anoop Singh 5 months ago

Aren't all 6 of them currently doing well already be it either holding championships, in main events or getting lots of TV time. Changing the rating doesn't improve the product it takes good writing and good booking to compliment the already good wrestling. Raw from 2002 to 2005 mostly sucked and it was TV 14. They don't need to ditch PG to make the product feel more gritty and real.

DanV900 I’m an optimist and I’m hoping the WWE can get back to the level of success that they once has form the late 90s to the Early 2000s. The viewers from the attitude era might be gone but the teenage demographic the WWE are targeting is what the product is changing for. Fox has paid 1 billion dollars for Smackdown they expect a lot of people to watch. This is the 1st time WWE has been on a major TV network in a long time. So Fox expects results or else they will cancel their deal. Plus AEW is going to TNT another major TV network. If their wasn’t a big audience for pro wrestling why would Fox and TNT pay to have pro wrestling on their networks if their wasn’t an audience for it. Smackdown is going to be on prime time on Fox that’s a big deal. So the viewers are their they just haven’t watched it because it’s been bad all these years.

    • DanV900
      DanV900 5 months ago

Mark Lynch Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff also will not be fully in charge. Vince will still be the guy to have final say. Eric Bischoff hasn’t done well with booking pro wrestling since the late 90s and successfully made TNA worse. His first idea with Hogan was to “fix” AJ Styles by making him like Ric Flair and Jeff Hardy later turned heel. That era was awful after TNA was actually better than WWE at the end of 2009.
