John answers viewers questions about the upcoming Predator movie.
Julian Everett writes, I’m looking forward to seeing Predator, but I can’t help but wonder if all the negative publicity the film is getting with the Olivia Munn situation will hurt or even cripple the movie at the box office. It’s a hot button topic right now and I’m worried it would damage the film more now than say a year ago. What are your thoughts?

The movie being awful is what's damaging The Predator movie. Olivia Munn is the only redeeming thing about this movie imo. Shane Black dropped the ball completely!

Why is this called the Olivia Munn Situation instead of the Steven Wilder Striegel Situation?
He is the one that tried to lure a 14 year old distant relative into a sexual relationship and got convicted for it.

The original predator movie had a lot of sexual jokes, innuendos, etc. which would not be acceptable today.

The only person who can hurt the predator is SHANE BLACK, and he has already done it

The only thing I dislike that Munn did was she behaved like she was expecting to get a standing ovation for getting the scene cut. She's been whining in the press that she doesn't feel supported...it's not the job of the other cast members to make you feel good about your decisions.
From the reviews I've seen of the movie I feel it won't do amazingly well long-term, but it should have a good opening weekend.

No one seems to be talking about the fact that the scene that this guy was cast in is a scene in which is engaging in sexual harassment to Nunn's character. If Shane Black wanted to give his friend a new start, couldn't he have given him a role that didn't involve that? He could have just been a shopkeeper, a window washer, a bus driver for f**ksake. I would say that Olivia Munn is responding more to that fact: that she was acting in a scene that was quite close to home. The guy's sexual offence was grooming a 14-year-old girl.

Short answer is no, but the long answer no because the film itself is going to flop personally.

No because people are smart enough to realize this was a pathetic publicity stunt that she pulled for attention. She’s a mediocre actress and and did this to stay relevant. The guy didn’t do anything to her and served his time. Black didn’t even know he had this on his history. It will
Do great and I’m seeing it opening night. Fuck Olivia Munn and liberal critics.

Lets just call it what it is, a has-been "actor" grasping at minute 16 of fame via a hot button topic with ZERO substance.

I don't think so, but it will hurt her career. There's a time and place for everything; you don't just open your mouth to the press and potentially jeprodize and negatively bring attention to the film that many people (actors, studios, employees) are depending on financially to do well!

She did the RIGHT thing. It may hurt the box office. But what to I know.

  • DsW
    DsW 9 months ago

It should. Shane Black hired a sex offender and didn't tell anyone, because he wanted to "help a friend". Not to mention that THERE WAS A CHILD ACTOR ON SET. Not supporting anything he does.

I think Olivia Munn ruined her career. No one was hurt and the guys criminal record is none of her business. Not only does she not know all the facts but there were no children on set (at least Munn hasn't mentioned if there were).
Also. She found this out after the scene was already filmed!
All she did was inconvenience a studio that is working on a tight schedule and doesn't need more bullshit in their busy schedules.
Studios talk and with the current climate in Hollywood; no one wants to work with a busy body actress.

Olivia Munn ‘s actions regarding the scene being deleted is fine but throwing her cast mates under the bus 🚌 by inciting supposed rumors of alienation is complete bullshit, she has a history of this , look what she did to Aaron Rodgers and his family.
    She sucks balls 🏈

what conspiracy, the only conspiracy that matters is that Predator movie got like so many classes of predators that its turned into ninja turtle predators or some thing, all fans upset about that; no body cares about Olivia Munn at this place things like these are in normal routine.

It’s like you don’t know what the situation is about. Shane Black hired his paedophile friend to do a scene with Olivia Munn. Knowing about his past Shane Black didn’t inform her, she found out about it and Fox got the scene removed from the movie.
After The paedophiles conviction Shane Black has put him in a couple of movies including Iron Man 3. This is not about Munn feeling sexualised at all.

Nine Eleven So much assumptions, I don't like Shane Black's friend, and I think he did a stupid move by putting his friend in movie, but I don't think Shane Black is a scumbag.

    • Nine Eleven

They used her to get access to her underage fans. There was no reason for Black to put that piece of sh*t into the movie. He did it so his piece of sh*t friend could use his small drop of fame and tell little girls that he is good friends with Munn, and lure them into a room with him and Black. Shane Black is a scumbag,..

100%... critics are already shitting on it when at TIFF it kind of crushed. Rtomatoes had it at like 80% for a day or so then Munn kepppttt talkin about it now look at its rating. This shit is getting more publicity than the actual Predator. Nothing happened to Olivia Munn. Shane Black has a guy in his movies that did something shady and bad but it shouldn’t hurt the movie... it will tho

Munn was used by sexual predators. They wanted to capitalize on her fan base so they could say they know her and lure underage girls into sex. Yea, she was wronged. Her fans were wronged. Shane Black is a scumbag.

When it has 80%, the movie only had 6 reviews, that same day the score felt into 65-67%, and since that day all the critics who say is good is just because at the end the got fun but everyone is saying that the movie is a mess, even in the good reviews.

It's funny because i think the guy was convicted of stalking and sexual harassment, and the role he played was a guy that was obsessed with Munn, and was constantly hitting on her. Maybe that's why she was so upset. The role was too close to real life.

  • Warrantedspeaker

The guy was a pedophile and her castmates ignored her until they got called out too. What a shitshow.

Awful trailers and word of mouth is what will kill the box office. This looked and smelled like a bomb over a year ago before we actually saw any footage. If anything, the sex offender scandal will only put a small dent in what will already be a disappointing box office intake.
I'd be surprised if this makes more than 22 million opening weekend. 43% on Rotten Tomatoes last time I checked lol.

Olivia Munn is a terrible actress who gets cast in too many big movies because she is dating someone famous and because she has rare light coloured eyes that give her a slight unique look as a Eurasian. I think Gemma Chan looks just as good but is a million times a better actress, she just doesn't look European enough for Hollywood.
