The windscreen wiper thing is so true! I didn't realise everyone felt that way about the intermittent setting. But the most irritating thing is if the driver's judgement is off and they have their wiper setting too high for the amount of water build-up. Urgh. Boo to them.

I actually really appreciated that system of flashing to alert sudden traffic jams. Totally carried it over when I moved back home. I think it's saved me from being rearended a few times

Yall come to Canada and put your Hazards on for any reason except for when youre being an ACTUAL HAZARD you will either be 1. Yelled at
    2. Flipped off or
    3. Stared at, Flipped off, Yelled at AND you will always be known to our friends and family as that idiot who put on their hazards for literally no reason

Ah yes because slowing from 70-0 in the dark when its raining is definitely not a hazard. Nice one

    • Collins LFC
Collins LFC 10 months ago +4

Why? If you're going from 70mph to 0 doing heavy braking, then warning the cars behind you seems like a good idea to me.

I've never seen a "hazard thankyou" I guess we don't have that in my country. Here we actually wave or flash our lights a little...

I didnt know Brits also do it. In Japan we use hazard to thank other drivers very often. I thought it was just in my country.

We either lift our hand so that the person behind us can see it trough our back window or use our indicators (left - right - left; mostly used by lorry drivers but some car drivers use this as well) to say thankyou to someone behind us.

    • Collins LFC
Collins LFC 10 months ago +1

Not really, it's just common sense. If you're waiting in a queue and leave a gap so somebody can pull out of a junction in front of you, then they may flash their hazard lights to thank you for letting them in. They only keep their hazard lights on for a second or so.

    • H vA
      H vA 10 months ago

Collins LFC Hmmm... and it's not mistaken for a warning by the people behind you? We just do flashy lights and waves both for behind and in front...

    • Collins LFC
Collins LFC 10 months ago +5

We use the "hazard thankyou" to thank cars that are behind us. If we're thanking a car in front of us we either flash our headlights (in the dark usually) or put our hand up.

I have always loved Michael McIntyres shows, but what is he on? British people are great drivers?! Youre bloody terrifying. You dont indicate. Never before have I been cut off by a double decker bus on a four lane roundabout, no indicators or anything. Or there was the time that the driver on the inner lane of yet another four lane roundabout decided that he didnt want to be there anymore and cut across three lanes, without indicating, and shot off down an exit. If someone cut someone in Australia, in any situation with our without indicating, you would get tooted at and abuse from the other drives. And lets not forget the speeds. 60 miles an hour down a narrow and winding country lane where you cant see whats coming because of the hedges. Thats a speed of 96km! Terrifying.

Putting on your hazard lights to warn of sudden slows doesn't seem to be a thing here in Australia. Sounds like a good idea though.
