Sure, destroy the plane, but at least keep the front of it (cockpit/front first class section) and put it in a museum or something.

    • World of AI - Music
World of AI - Music Year ago

By the time they do this, the cockpit has no switches, knobs, levers, CRT screens, windows. Just metal boxes. Not worth to be in a museum.

Very sad. One can see how aircraft grade aluminum stands up against solid steel of the machines. Twin towers were built of solid steel frame and concrete reinforced with rebar (more steel) to withstand hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, plane strikes, fire while planes are designed and built to be light, to save fuel. Video shows that aluminum is no match for solid steel.

    • MurphMonkey
      MurphMonkey Year ago +3

Martial 3231 Yes but when a plane is going over 350-400 mph , its going to do some dmg, and jet fuel may not be hot enough to completly melt steal beams, they can weaken them to the point to where the weight above it collapses

748s Are incredibly rare. And not really.

    • Damon Lang
      Damon Lang 2 years ago

The whole point of scrapping aircraft (747's in particular) is to recycle non - renewable materials. Without doing this, they might not make 'the best creation in the world'. Besides, wouldn't you rather a 747-8 fresh out of the factory?

    • Lorenzo van het Hul
Lorenzo van het Hul 3 years ago +3

Plane was too old, metal fatigue is something you can't repair on such big airframe. I know its sad but the solid steel machines did a good thing

    • Lorenzo van het Hul
Lorenzo van het Hul 3 years ago +1

Yea true, but i think we should fly one 737 or a320 those are one of the cheapest, safest and best airplanes. They are fast and maneuverable. And of course easy to maintain as it is quite small

    • Peter Downey
Peter Downey 3 years ago +2

@Lorenzo van het Hul Yes, but the 747-8 still has a higher capacity than the 747-400, because it is longer.

  • John Harrison

I know that they have to do this to an "old" aircraft, but it still hard to watch a once beautiful piece of engineering end its life like this.

    • Peter Downey
Peter Downey 4 years ago +3

They should show the aluminium going to Sweden and being made into Saabs. That would make it easier... I think.

VH OED was not liked by the crews as it and OEC are both ex-MH (4H6) and can not be re-configured to QF spec (438). Most crews and engineers were glad to be rid of it.
