Agreed on the metric system and the date format. But Celsius doesn’t make sense in everyday life. It makes sense in science and manufacturing, but people don’t live at the boiling point of water and they don’t stop living below the freezing point of water. People safely live between 0 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Yeah. ;) I think other Countries just like complaining about America because they know the decisions they've made are worse than the ones we've made. At least most of ours make sense. ;) Take Pounds (Lbs) for example: Lbs refers to weight. And makes more sense as such. Yet, Some other Countries use this instead of saying Dollars. Or whatever. Its like they knew str8 out that the terms we came up with were better. But out of pride, they just had to be different. "You do it this way, so well do it another way!" Take the word "Police." Other Countries unnecessarily add an (IO) or an (IA) to the end of it. No need to add extra letters geniuses. Its fine the way it is. ;) Morons. lol!

So, can someone answer me this? Are the interview or topics somehow, rehearsed in a way, or guest just simply happen to be that good at answering questions? Just curious

    • WhateverForever

      Yes, they are rehearsed.
They arrange what will be spoken about, and basic bullet points.
It’s organised, but still allows for some improv.

I begrudgingly went to Chick-Fil-A tonight and they had a little table with a place setting for soldiers who died in war, a bible, and a sign explaining it. The only part I disagreed with was the claim that the Founding Father's wrote this is "one nation, under god."

Both date formats are wrong: the only logical one is "year-month-day", the most important number first, and it also sorts well in digital systems.
Btw..., when you give time, do you first give seconds, then minutes, and hours?? No, you say the most important digit first, hours. It should be the same with dates. Why the inconsistency?
Now, it is assumed that we all know what year we are in. So, you omit the year, and give month and day, the 2. and 3. most important digit. Voila, you have the American date format.

NO! No! It should be *year* first, then month, then day! ISO 8601. I've memorized that number because the issue comes up so often, and because every time it comes up I want to show that person the corresponding XKCD comic: xkcd.com/1179/
The reason "2018-08-05" is so much more useful (to me, as somebody who uses computers a lot), is that it makes sorting anything by date a lot easier. If you start file names with a date formatted like that, sorting by date becomes the same as sorting alphanumerically.

      Bryan L 6 days ago

YES! THIS! I have hundreds of image files on my PC for my remote control hobby and they all start with the date like that so I know when I had what and when I upgraded something to have what. yyyy-mm-dd FTW!

I like the way he's comfortable enough in his Australianness to pronounce Fillet O' Fish the Australian/Commonwealth way and not translate himself for Americans.
I found myself translating when I lived in the US. Now that I am back home in Australia it has taken me years to lose "cell phone" and I still haven't ditched "soda". Other words I use differently depending on whether I'm talking to Australians or my American wife -- "trash/rubbish" is an example here.

YYYY/MM/DD. It's unambiguous, doesn't conflict with any existing usage, it can seamlessly include time of day (Year:Month:Day:Hour:Min:Sec) and it's best for all computer-based uses from sorting files to software programming. Easy to implement, solves all problems, and is already an ISO standard.

dyl flah I'll bite. Compared to the USA, Australia is a socialist democracy. Australia has a higher standard of living, free healthcare, longer life expectancy, lower crime rate, 3 cities in the top ten of the most liveable cities in the world, the U.S. didn't make the cut. Finally Australia can send their kids to school without fear they will be gunned down.. You're right socialism doesn't work.......

Did you know water freezes and boils at different pressure levels? Even the supposedly more precise metric system makes a simple common sense call in the way temperature is measured. if you wanted to be precise you would have to say 100 degrees celsius is the boiling point for water _at sea level_
