I always thought buy it on blueray was higher than awesometacular because just because q movie was awesome doesnt mean you would pay to see it again or even want to see it again; but buy it on blueray means that you would both pay for the ticket and pay to be able to see it multiple times. But iblike this better. After all once a movie has been rated as watchable its hard to say how good one person would see it vs another

i can't help to view your rating system as u menchioned b4, with Dogshit being a 1, and awesometacular being like a 9 or a 10. In other words, I can skip to the end of the review and generally know if it's a good movie by ur rating. Also I still view 'a good time no alcohol' as the middle ground positive, because in almost every review u gave that rating to, the movie was pretty good but not great. Take Last Jedi for instance, u gave it a good time, why? becuase it has both negatives and positives surronding it, thus it deserves that rating. If it was a step up it would have been buy on blu ray, or amazing would be awesometacular. Sorry to disappoint u, but this is how I view it.

  • Ghost Dog
Ghost Dog 4 months ago +1

I completely disagree with your opinion of the Siskel & Ebert rating system. It’s lazy, vague and lacks any nuance.
With a thumbs up/thumbs down system every movie is either “awesometacular” or “dogshit”.
Where as most movies out there are primarily in between.
Because in this defunct system as an example, a great movie like Raiders of the Lost Ark would be an up while Crystal Skull would be a down. But without anything in between Temple & Crusade suffer greatly.
In a 5 star system Temple would be a 3 1/2 maybe 4 but with the thumb system it’s apparently just as great as Raiders while the obvious three star Crusade would be relegated to the same level as Crystal Skull.

I really don't dont see what is/was so hard to understand about your rating system. When i first started watching your videos about a year and a half ago, I didn't even think you were rating them with those phrases I just thought you were being funny (which you were) after quite a few videos i noticed they began to repeat themselves. After hearing them all, I used my human brain to decide what all 6 generally meant, at least to me
Dogshit- pretty obvious, movie was garbage
    T-minus- movie is totally forgettable
Alcohol required- is meh, but is probanly better when drinking with your friend
No Alcohol required- is a good time
Blueray- movie is so good, you should even consider buying it on a disc to see all the extra shit
Awesometacular- speaks for itself (forgive me if I spelled it wrong lol)

This question always bothers we when I see you rate a movie “awesometacular”
Do you buy it on blue ray?
Cuz there are movies that are fantastic but ain’t worth rewatching, like the sixth sense. The whole magic of the movie is the ending that enhances the entire movie to another level. Granted the movie is good, but without the ending it wouldn’t be as good. So when you already know the ending, it’s just very long and boring movie.... at least that’s what I think

    Dog Shit =
    T-Minus = ⭐️

  • PlayGamesRelax
    PlayGamesRelax 8 months ago +11

I always pictured them as tiers.
    Dogshit: Don’t watch
T-minus: Below average forgettable but not terrible.
Drunk: Specific mood or mindset to enjoy.
No alcohol: A good movie to see once but not necessarily have to see ever again.
Buy on Blu Ray: A movie worth buying in Jeremy’s opinion not one to buy blindly but see it of course because it is also a good time no alcohol required.
Awesometacular: A must see in Jeremy’s eyes and I believe any awesometacular he would also buy on Blu Ray and is a good time no alcohol required so watch any movie at least once above that line.

If worth buying on blu-ray isn't specifically better then a good time no alcohol required then why isn't good time no alcohol required rated films never on any of your top 10 lists and films that are worth buying on blu-ray have been plenty of times, examples: wind river, mother, fuck that movie by the way, mad max fury road, get out, Blade runner 2049, the edge of 17, bridge of spies, ex Machina, straight outta Compton, guardians of the galaxy,
John Wick, gone girl, bad grandpa, and the Hobbit an unexpected journey. that's 14 movies that you gave worth buying on blu-ray and secured a place on one of your top 10 lists, and not once did I find a movie that you said was a good time no alcohol required. So it seems to me that this worth buying on blu-ray isn't spacifically better then a good time no alcohol required is horse shit to me. not that those movies are bad, well mother is but the others are just examples that prove my point and disprove yours, just saying.

Love your rating system and I did always think it was pretty self explanatory. Of course if I loved a movie and you give it a no alcohol required I do question why it didn’t connect with you like it did me... but overall I understand that it’s still good or bad and the review provides context for the rating which in my opinion is more important anyway.

so basically again it's still like a numeric value or with stars..cuz there's only 5 values the worst bein dog shit and the bad but not super bad is T-minus/forgettable. Alcohol fun time is a middle ground and Blu ray is good, and your best is Awesometacular. I mean who the fuck comes here and skip to the end of a review without any context. I mean i understand the need for reviews, nobody has all the time and money in the world to see every movie so knowing if something is good or bad is helpful but not knowing why is dumb like I said The Bye Bye man is a good movie because it's so dumb that it's hilarious that I couldn't stop laughing. Like I love each review but I mean if the goal was to have a rating system that would be more ambiguous then doesn't having two extremes in your ratings makes it more explicit. I mean I'm not complaining or anything just feel like u wanted a rating system but still wanted to be flexible which in my opinion is impossible. Like is there a movie that u would rate good time if your drunk that's better than something u would buy on Blu ray? The only reasonable way I can see the rating system being more ambiguous is if the rating were separate but equal with no extremes and the categories were more like This movie is great at parties and friends. This movie is deep and philosophical and will leave u thinking. This movie is highly romantic and great to enjoy with a partner or this movie isn't good but can be humorous when under the influence. This movie is awkward with alot of issues and a bit nonsensical but it's easy to understand the message behind it and wasn't a terrible time but not something you would recommend.
I mean I just feel like you really wanted something more fun and Whimsical when in truth atleast to me your system is alot more defined than a number system that where if it's to 10 anything below a 7 is practically dog shit to most people.

Jeremy should get rid of the rating system. That way, people listen to what he actually says instead of just skipping to the end to listen to the final score. IGN suffers from this unfortunately.
