If diamond is harder than steel, why in the other video did a guy smash a diamond to bits with a hammer? Steel would not smash to pieces if you hit it with a hammer

    • Luke Ivers AIA
Luke Ivers AIA 2 months ago

My guess would be because hard and brittle are two different material properties. Steel is ductile and more resilient to impact.

+Just4FunCOD adamantium is a real world example of unobtainium ;)

    • Just4FunCOD
      Just4FunCOD 4 years ago +1

+Leroy Van Riet It's hilarious when morons correct people. Adamant is not a material, it is just an adjective which essentially means "very hard". For instance, diamonds are adamant. So what you just said was "adamantium is based on very hard". That is of course pure gibberish. Firstly, adamantium is a material existing in the marvel universe, not an adjective. Secondly, adamantium is not accepted as a term for adamant and adamant is, as mentioned earlier, not a material but an adjective. An accepted term for adamant would be adamantine, which is also a hard mineral. But adamant is still an adjective and adamantium is still fictional. Do some research yourself.

just like diamond blade its only on the blade itself but not the actual disk. its very dense so it can cut thru other things easier that is less dense. like you mention if the whole disk is made out of diamond it would have probably shatter or breaks more easily.

+Anis Mebarek He's right, you can smash a diamond with a hammer, Its hard but not invincible.

      WHYWHYWHY 4 years ago

they aren't they are very brittle, however they are very hard. It all depends how you test the strength while diamonds are very hard it does not make them strong in all areas. Wurtzite boron nitride is much harder than diamond.
