i'm a brunette yet i so strongly identify with elle woods. if you look a certain way, society assumes you _are_ a certain way and they treat you as such even if you behave to the contrary. it's even worse if you behave in a way they don't expect (i.e. if you're model pretty but mensa smart) because then you're abused by jealous men and ostracized and ignored/back stabbed by women out of jealousy. it's a very isolating feeling, even if you're a genuinely nice person. because no one reads it as sincere, they think you're being fake. it's really stupid and damaging and i hope one day society is rid of this behavior.

At 15:08, I could fall in love w/ Elle!! She has such a look of kindness & goodwill on her face when she says to someone who hasn't always been kind to her, "Look! He likes you!" Reese Witherspoon radiates genuine warmth & innocence there that's very attractive in just a few seconds! It pulls you to Elle like a magnet! Wow.

A person asked me to watch this. There actually is quite a bit wrong with this video, but I will leave with this one thing.
Be yourself to the fullest, but know when you should suppress yourself. The world is not kind or forgiving and showing to other people that you have something great or and of value will incentivize them to steal your light. Be a self regulated person and free spirit when you need to be. This goes for both males and females. And for the monsters..... you know what I'm talking about!

One of the issues with the movie is Elle's lack of true passion for anything. In the beginning of the movie, she was passionate about fashion, and love. Only to be passionate about law at the end of the movie. The problem is she finds her passion for law by happen stance. One could assume she would find passion in anything Warner was interested in. If Warner went to med school, would Elle be passionate about medicine? Perhaps Elle is passionate about whatever she puts her mind to.

Alyssa Rose yes I wasn’t saying she wasn’t... but not THAT blonde.., even in the beginning of this movie they showed a Clairol box.... It’s Hollywood ... they glam up and give them highlights/lowlights, etc. My mom is a natural blonde but still lightens her hair or her hair gets lighter when she goes into the sun. My hair is naturally dark brown and I get “highlights” when I’m out in the sun. I didn’t say natural blondes were non existent.. I’m just saying most of the “blondes” we see today (myself included) are brunettes who bleached to get blonde hair.

The thing I love the most about this movie is Elle's bond with Vivian, they were supposed to be rivals and fight to win some dude, but they end up being best friends, that's a very pure message.

this was so nice to watch. as a brunette who has her hair blonde, i’ve noticed how different people treat me. i’ve always wanted to play around with hair colors and i found new confidence in being blonde. not only do i look good but i love proving people wrong when they try to scam me in some way. i’ve noticed how people try to undermine me because i’m always dressed cute with makeup and skirts and jewelry.
now my hair is orange with hints of blonde
elle is an inspiration. we love a queen. thank u, next

The idea that optimism is naivety and pessimism is realism that this film partly fights against is something that really annoys me. Pessimism never improves anything. Optimism fuels action.

I am a Norwegian troll. To me, the most important thing in life is money and making absolutely no commitments whatsoever beyond making money. When my time to die comes, my soul should be recycled same as any other soul belonging to a troll, a Norwegian, or a Norwegian troll. What can I say? Most revere the Bible and I revere Peer Gynt.

I appreciate “Legally Blonde” for deconstructing “dumb blonde” stereotypes and how Elle’s “Chekhov’s Skill” (her knowledge of fashion labels and hair products) wins the case at the end.
However, the movie is a “Broken Aesop”:
We’re not suppose to sympathize with Warner, and it’s clear he’s a shallow, idiotic jerk for rejecting Elle (as well as not telling Elle that he’s already engaged to someone else), BUT if it weren’t for him saying that he wanted a “serious” wife, then Elle would never have gone to Harvard law school to get him back.
Granted she stays at Harvard Law School for four years, even after she realizes that Warner will never take her back, but still, the fact that her motivation for going to Harvard revolves around getting her man back does rub me the wrong way.
The movie would have been stronger if it were about a West Coast, blonde woman going to law school ON HER OWN TERMS (and not because of a man), and while she’s there, she experiences sexism and “dumb blonde jokes”, and therefore learns to not let the bullying get to her.

To me I think it's more about how we shame femininity. We assume girls who act girly and embrace girlishness are dumb, superficial and one dimensional. Elle embraces everything people expect from women. She loves to keep up with her appearance, she loves pink and loves to party. We assume women like that aren't smart and are obsessed with vanity. That where the "I'm not like other girls" girls come from. They've been taught that being girly is something to be ashamed of and therefor strive to reject that.
