It’s a pity we only remember them but don’t HONOUR THEM , remembering those who gave their lives for their countries , falls grossly short , they died in vain , this might make some feel good today , but tomorrow it’s business as usual . Good old western values .

Remembrance Day is what they call ''Veterans Day". We changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. Same acknowledgement. Different moniker.

What lies, politicians & others have already forgotten those who died in 2 world wars & subsequent wars. I doubt there's a family alive now that isn't decended from those who went through those times who are being thrown on the scrapheap by have worse and fewer education opportunities, fewer & worse job prospects than even 20 years ago and successive governments trying to get rid of the rights fought for in those wars. The easy bit is standing at various memorials around the world looking sombre for a while. The hard bit is actually doing something meaningful and making the lives of ordinary people who are continually asked to shoulder the burdens of government spineless bullying. Enough of the stupid false divisions, if politicians & others mean what they say that they won't forget the sacrifices made by millions a century ago, stop austerity, stop Brexit bullshit, give people some certainty and stability in their lives without pre-conditions & make their lives better.

JohnB Wright I was told at RAF museum that because US pilots were not allowed to officially serve in Battle of Britain as the USA was not in war WW2 yet they signed up as Canadians.

    • J. Richards
      J. Richards Month ago +3

@gbjanuary , About 20% of pilots who took part in the battle of Britain were from non-British countries. The Royal Air Force roll of honour for the Battle of Britain recognises 595 non-British pilots (out of 2,936) as flying at least one authorised operational sortie with an eligible unit of the RAF or Fleet Air Arm between 10 July and 31 October 1940. These included 145 Poles, 127 New Zealanders, 112 Canadians, 88 Czechoslovaks, 10 Irish, 32 Australians, 28 Belgians, 25 South Africans, 13 French, 9 Americans, 3 Southern Rhodesians and individuals from Jamaica, Barbados and Newfoundland.

The hypocrisy is staggering. We jail people who expose war crimes (Assange). We sell weaponry to countries knowing that those weapons will be used to conduct war crimes (Saudi Arabia). And to top it all we have a disgraced Prince of the Realm (Andy) laying a wreath!!!! Excuse me while I DONT wear a poppy. Satisfyingly very few young people in my city were seen wearing a poppy today and only a handful of elderly people were wearing one. Good.
